ICS utilizes a network intelligence system that operates on a live network, from any location, with no specialized hardware or remote agents required. It views the network the same way applications do, in that it travels along the same end-to-end network path. ICS can rapidly measure network capacity (bandwidth), locate bottlenecks, and determine where congestion has occurred. It uses sampling and proprietary algorithms developed from a number of network queuing theorems to achieve these results.
The system was developed to answer a number of key questions:
What is the capacity of my network?
How much of that capacity am I using?
Why is my network performance poor?
Where is the bottleneck in my network, and is it congested?
What is the cause of congestion - network or application?
If the network, then specifically where in the network?
Are there any half-duplex/full-duplex conflicts on my network?
Are there any MTU negotiation problems on my network?
